Gunnar & Jake’s started out of love & inspiration! I have a passion for canning & cooking and Love to make people happy through my food. The very logo of Gunnar & Jake’s was taken by me @ home 4 years ago while I was randomly dressing my boy’s up and letting them eat my homemade pickles. Gunnar & Jake are ham’s for the camera! I took this very picture of them & created the logo that would become Gunnar & Jake’s Gourmet Pickles & Peppers, LLC.
This story starts along time ago when I got the diagnosis @ the age of 16 that I had a very rare kidney disease that would eventually lead to me having kidney failure. Doctor’s didn’t believe that I would ever be able to carry children b/c both of my kidney’s were so badly damaged. Through preseverance, hope, & never giving up…I went on to have my first miracle in November of 1999…we named him Gunnar. He was 6 weeks premature & weinging only 3 lb 4 oz. Doctor’s told me no more kids. I found out I was pregnant again in 2001 and being a very high risk pregnancy. Things were even scarier with this pregnancy as I was in full blown kidney failure and doctor’s had to deliver my second miracle 14 weeks premature. This was a true Miracle. We named him Jake! Jake was born @ 26 weeks and weighing only 1 lb 10 oz, measuring only 13″ long. He spent 7 weeks in NICU and is completely healthy to this day. But, the pregnancies had taken a toll on my body & I desperately needed a kidney. I was only 29 year old. My brother & sister were both willing to give the “gift of life”. Both siblings were a match & doctor’s couldn’t be happier. And, on 10/9/02, my beloved sister, Lori, donated her kidney to save my life. I can never repay her for the gift! I truly feel Blessed & want to teach Gunnar & Jake to never give up, keep their faith, always have hope, laugh, & love. I’ve always had a love for pickles, peppers, & anything pickled! But after my transplant I couldn’t have all that salt anymore. So through trials & errors, I started canning my own unique & one of a kind pickled items and recipes. I created all of these recipes using no sugar & very low sodium…I want to enjoy eating a good jar of pickles without having all of that salt. Gunnar & Jake are the inspirations behind everything I do & the Love’s of my Life! Just as God has a Plan & Purpose for everyone’s Life, so is this company!
